Meet Kevin
a dedicated lifetime to creative iron work
Kevin grew up in his father’s machine shop, and at age 14 Wendell put him to work making wrought iron fencing for the family home in California. Friends and relatives soon wanted to hire the father and son team for their iron fencing needs. Wendell, busy with his own projects, put Kevin to work to fill their orders. Recognizing an opportunity to make extra money for bicycle parts and camera equipment he quickly obliged never thinking he was working on his passion and profession.
Early in his life he dreamed of being an architect. He started his academic career majoring in architecture but his father, fearful that Kevin wouldn’t be able to support himself, persuaded him to switch to engineering. As a mechanical engineer he has worked for 3M, Lockheed Aircraft, Intergraph, and IBM. These companies gave him skills in manufacturing and marketing.
More than 20 years later, The Iron Studio is flourishing and Kevin recognizes potential in the next generation. Inheriting an artistic eye from her father, Kortlyn has begun learning from her father’s expert hand. He is teaching her the art of forging, chasing, and repoussé.
